Newcastle United are preparing to launch a late bid to re-sign QPR striker Loic Remy.

We told you yesterday that Remy was closing in on an £8million move to Arsenal but was yet to agree personal terms with the Gunners.

Remy, who spent last season on loan at St James’ Park under Alan Pardew, had made it clear playing in Europe was a priority and he was spotted in the stands at the Emirates in May.

However, sources on Tyneside suggest the Magpies sense a move to north London is stalling and are ready to pick up the pieces should negotiations with Arsenal collapse.

Newcastle believes that Remy’s lack of match action for France at the summer’s World Cup have limited his chances of securing Champions League football.

Tottenham are also monitoring the situation.
