Manchester United have agreed a club-record £37million deal to sign Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata.

The Spanish star is set to complete a move to Old Trafford shortly, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.

United confirmed the deal via their Twitter account: "#MUFC has reached agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Juan Mata for a club-record fee.

"The deal for Mata is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course."

Mata trained alone alone at Chelsea’s Cobham training complex earlier this week while the finer details of his big-money move to Old Trafford were ironed out .

He has become disillusioned at life in west London after being pushed down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho and wants first-team football ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Reacting angrily at Mourinho’s decision to substitute him in the New Year’s Day victory over Southampton was the beginning of the end for the midfielder.

Chelsea paid £23.5m to sign Mata from Valencia in 2011.
