Toumani Diagouraga paid tribute to Brentford and their supporters after he completed his move from Griffin Park to Leeds United.

The midfielder agreed a two and a half year deal at Elland Road and has left the Bees for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £600,000.

And Diagouraga said he has memories he will cherish for the rest of his life from his six year stint in west London.

“It's nice that it's all done and dusted and I can look forward to the future. It was a hard decision to leave Brentford but I had a good talk with them and they made it happen,” he told GetWestLondon .

“Thank you to the fans for standing by me for six years. I had a wonderful time and I'll never forget it.

“It's sad to leave Brentford. I've enjoyed my time at the club. Like everything in life, good things come to an end.”

Diagouraga, ironically, could make his Leeds debut at Griffin Park on Tuesday night and believes it will be the hardest game of his life, but is hopeful the Bees fans will give him a good reception.

He said: “It's very bizarre. If I face them tomorrow, it'll be the hardest game I'll have to play in my career so far.

“I'll have to remember to go into the right dressing room. It's going to be a strange feeling.”

The Frenchman added: “I hope to get a nice reception but you can't guarantee what the reaction will be. I'm sure most fans will agree that I gave my all for the club when I was there.”

Diagouraga has enjoyed many highs and lows during his time at Griffin Park and believes the 2014/15 season where Brentford made the Championship was the best of them.

He explained: “Last season was my favourite memory. It was massive. We had a very good team playing a nice expansive brand of football which I really enjoyed.

“The biggest lesson I learnt was to just try and be consistent and put good performances in week in week out not putting in a good one then a bad one.”

Diagouraga has had some banter with his, now, former team-mates and he will be able to say his goodbyes properly to them tomorrow.

He explained: “There's been a little bit but nothing too much but I'm sure I'll see them tomorrow and have a chat with them.”

Diagouraga admitted it was slightly unsettling to see the 2014/15 side broken up so quickly but sought to move past it.

Since Leeds came in for him, he has also spoken to Stuart Dallas, who made the same move in the summer.

“It been a little unsettling but at the end of the day, everyone has a job to do and play well for the shirt.

“Whenever a football club comes in for you it's flattering. Rangers and Leeds are massive clubs so it was flattering to be linked with them.

“I spoke to him a couple of times. He's really enjoying it here and doesn't have a bad thing to say about the club which made my decision easier.

“I just want to win as many games as possible for Leeds United and try and get that club up to where it belongs.”
