The mid-season window is notorious for its last-minute, inflated purchases, but the Whites have had some success since FIFA made transfer windows compulsory during the 2002-03 season.

Here at getwestlondon, we have been asking readers via Twitter for their suggestions of QPR’s top five best and worst winter buys. Below we feature your favourite January recruits, with the bottom five set to follow on Monday.

1. Loic Remy from Marseille 2012-13

Remy was joining a lost cause when he made the switch thanks to the charm of chairman Tony Fernandes.

The QPR supremo famously reckoned his showing at a computer game in the Frenchman’s home clinched the deal although boss Harry Redknapp had already dipped his toes in the transfer water when boss at Tottenham – only to get turned down.

Despite the predicament, Remy showed he was worth every penny of £8m when he not only scored on his debut at West Ham but added five more in 13 appearances – nearly one every two games for a team destined to finish rock bottom.

2. Andros Townsend from Tottenham 2012-13

There were precious few crumbs of comfort in a relegation season, but the Spurs loanee was another to go with Remy.

It was almost as if his parent club had forgotten they had a potential England player in their midst. And when Townsend was subsequently selected to play for his country he not only shone there, but was named man of the match in the 4-1 World Cup qualifier against Montenegro in October that also culminated in him scoring the third goal.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp was quick to point out Townsend’s stay at Loftus Road was the main reason for the kick-start in his career.

3. Djibril Cisse from Lazio 2011-12

‘Shame he went off the boil the following season’ Tweeted one reader.

Actually, he was on the boil soon after joining Hoops. He scored on his debut to earn Hoops a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa and was then sent off in the next match against Wolves as he tried to throttle Roger Johnson.

Scoring the second in a 3-2 win over Liverpool was precursor to a second red after a two-footed lunge at Sunderland’s Frazier Campbell three days later.

However, six goals in only eight games was good, but 10 points from games in which the mercurial striker scored was a major reason for Rs survival by the skin of their teeth.

4. Wayne Routledge (second time) from Newcastle 2010-11

The pacy winger had already been and gone by the time he re-joined Rangers on loan from Newcastle.

In January 2011 he had yet to score for the Magpies in 19 previous tries, and yet hit the mark first time out for Hoops in a vital 2-1 win over Coventry.

He then hit the winner again at Reading in February, two against Sheffield United in a 3-0 win, and another crucial goal in a 1-1 draw against Hull.

Only five goals in total, but he scored cutting in from the wing, and those hits netted 10 points as Rangers soared to the Championship title.

5. Nedum Onuoha from Manchester City 2011-12

The defender is run close for fifth best Hoops signing in January by Heidar Helguson, who was on loan before the deal for the Icelandic hitman got made permanent in January 2009.

Onuoha has been forced to play a bits-and-pieces role since, but his initial impact after joining from City shored up a backline that survived the season in frantic finale at of all places, Onuoha’s previous club.
