Huddersfield have beaten Fulham to the signing of Montpellier's Steve Mounie, the French club's Chairman has confirmed.

The Cottagers had bid for the Benin international, but he has decided to join newly promoted Huddersfield Town with the lure of the Premier League too strong for the 22-year-old.

Laurent Nicollin, chairman of Montpellier, confirmed that the striker had joined the Terriers on a four-year deal, subject to a medical, with a fee of €13million plus bonuses agreed between the two clubs.

Mounie scored 14 goals last season in Ligue 1 in France, as well as providing two assists for the club as they finished 15th in the division.

Meanwhile, the club remain optimistic that they can reach a deal with Bordeaux for striker Diego Rolan.
