With Reading set to Sone Aluko from Fulham for £7.5million, it has paved the way for the Whites to make a move for Brentford's Jota.
The Spanish wing wizard has been the subject of intense transfer speculation over the summer months with Middlesbrough and Hull seeing bids knocked back by the Bees.
West Ham, Everton and Newcastle had been reportedly interested earlier this summer but that has subsequently cooled.
Jota is in the final year of his contract at Brentford and the Bees' transfer policy has been to cash in on a player, rather than let them leave for nothing.
And, when it comes to selling players, Matthew Benham and his team will accept an offer from any club, providing it meets the valuation placed on him.
The Spaniard will also be keen to stay in west London with his family moving over to the capital to start school.
Jota told GetWestLondon in February: “My family is very important to me. They're not coming because the kids have school and they're coming to live here in the summer.
“Everything changed but in a few months they're coming to start in school here.
“They travel every weekend to Brentford and I see them every weekend and we are very happy because I may spend the week alone but I see the kids and my wife.
“Now they stay in Spain because of school and it's easy to finish in Spain. Next year, they'll be studying in Brentford.”
