Fulham have had a £4million bid rejected by Swansea City for defender Neil Taylor.

Craven Cottage chief Rene Meulensteen is desperate to bolster a backline that has shipped 48 goals in just 22 games – the most in the Premier League – and made an offer for the out-of-favour left-back earlier this week.

However, the Swans have turned down Fulham’s opening bid for the 24-year-old, who is keen to quit the Liberty Stadium to get regular football following a long spell out with an ankle injury.

“I rate him highly,” said Meulensteen, who also confirmed Fulham are interested in signing Leicester City centre-back Liam Moore.

"He was very unfortunate getting such a horrific injury because when he was at his best he had top-four qualities and was on Manchester United’s radar.”

Meulensteen has been handed a big boost after star striker Dimitar Berbatov committed himself to the club for the rest of the season.

However, one player who has been given the green light to move on is Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng.

Meulensteen added: "With Derek I can say there’s been interest from Watford and from Evian in France. So, again, that’s an ongoing discussion.”
