Chelsea defender Baba Rahman has been named as a summer transfer target for Fenerbahce.

The Ghana international has had a torrid time in west London after being signed for a sizeable fee in the summer.

Rahman arrived at Stamford Bridge with a good reputation forged after a superb season for Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

However, he was barely afforded any minutes on the pitch under Jose Mourinho in the first half of the season as the Special One stuck with Cesar Azpilicueta.

Defensive injuries have seen Azpilicueta shifted to right back in recent weeks and allowed Rahman to get some football under his belt.

But the left-back has not seized his opportunity to impress after a series of shaky displays, not to mention being hauled off at half-time at Southampton in February.

The final few games of this campaign could determine whether the Blues persist with the full-back or he follows the same swift exit as Felipe Luis before him.

Luis, now back with Atletico Madrid, is reportedly another name on Fenerbahce’s wish list as they look for a replacement for Caner Erkin ahead of his expected departure.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik claims Rahman is the leading contender for the job as the Yellow Canaries hope to take advantage of the situation.

Rahman’s poor performances in the Premier League will have considerably lowered his value and Fenerbahce smell a bargain in the offing.

Chelsea still have Nathan Ake on the books and his loan spell at Watford is due to end at the end of term.

He would provide another option at the back if Rahman does head to Turkey, although Ake told the Guardian earlier this month that he was unsure what the future holds.

Ake said: “Before the season I thought it would be a good year if I managed to get 15 starts, with perhaps a few extra games as a sub.

“I have worked really hard and it has turned out really well."

“I realised this was a very important year for myself. I don't know yet where I will be next season.

“In principle I will report for pre-season at Chelsea but I don't know their plans. Obviously they have a new manager [Antonio Conte] as well.”

Ake has been instrumental in Watford’s Premier League campaign this term and enjoyed a good run in the FA Cup.

They bowed out in the semis at Wembley over the weekend.
