AFC Wimbledon's hopes of re-signing Michael Smith have been dashed after the Charlton Athletic striker sealed a permanent switch to Swindon Town.

The youngster smashed 10 goals in 25 games during a prolific loan spell with the Dons in the first half of the campaign, only to return to the Valley earlier this month.

Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley was hopeful of bringing the 22-year-old back to Kingsmeadow before the end of the window after Addicks boss Chris Powell had the chance to assess his squad.

However, the Dons will have to explore other options after Smith agreed a move to the County Ground instead.
