Coventry City have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Brentford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.

We revealed back in June that the Sky Blues had shown an interest in the former Watford and Peterborough man.

However, Diagouraga, who is in the final year of his contract, has impressed during pre-season and got the nod ahead of Jake Reeves for Tuesday night's Capital One Cup thriller at Dagenham.

Boss Mark Warburton said: “Toumani would be the first to admit it’s his level of consistency which is key for us.

"He’s got so many attributes that we want him to be consistent, and he’s shown that on Tuesday night. He was clever with the ball and tidy in possession.

“He’s got an important part to play. He’s done well in pre-season and got game time. I’ve got no problems using him as and when required.”
