Karl Robinson expects to lose Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford in January as Championship clubs scramble for his signature.

The 20-year-old has smashed 16 goals in 28 games for MK Dons during his prolific loan spell, but is due to return to Stamford Bridge on January 5.

Middlesbrough, Burnley and Wigan have been linked with a swoop for the Blues youngster, although Robinson will make a last-ditch attempt to keep Bamford at the League One club.

He said: “We'll speak to Chelsea today but I'll be surprised if he is still with us in January.

“He's a special talent and scored a number of goals. He is someone who is going to go from strength to strength.

“I'm desperate to keep him. But if George Saville stays here at Brentford, I don't see why Patrick can't stay with us.

“George Saville is a Chelsea player so what's the difference? Hopefully we can sort something out.”
