French centre half Kurt Zouma will join Chelsea in pre-season – but may be sent out on loan after that, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.
The Blues agreed a fee of £12.5m for the St Etienne player - who has played for French national youth teams - but he will remain in France until the end of the season, at least.
“He’ll join us in pre-season, then we’ll decide if he stays or goes on loan” said the Chelsea boss about the 19-year-old, whose could be a potential successor to John Terry – whose current deal at Stamford Bridge ends in the summer.
“He’s a young player in a position we need for the future. Job done.
“He’s very young. He’s playing already a couple of seasons in the French league with St Etienne. He’s played many international matches with his country – we know he’s a player with good potential.
“There's big space for improvement. He’s physically ready, another thing is to be tactically ready. I say well done Chelsea – the last thing in the transfer window. We have the present and we have the future.”
