Chelsea have been linked with a sensational £32 million return for David Luiz just two years after they sold him to Paris Saint Germain for a record £50 million.

The Brazilian centre-half made 81 appearances for the Blues in a two and a half year stint following his move from Benfica in January 2011 for just over £20 million.

He was part of that famous night in Munich when Chelsea lifted their only Champions League and scored some memorable goals during his time in a blue shirt.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to sign a centre-half and has already missed out on AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly.

PSG are said to be blocking a move but Luiz, having fallen down the pecking order in Paris, is understood to be open to a return to west London.

The crazy-haired defender often divided opinion when he played in the Premier League due to his mercurial style which at times led him to neglect defensive duties.

But here are five reasons why seeing him return to Stamford Bridge would be good news for Blues fans.

1. Man for the big occasion

Say what you want about how he is capable of lapses in concentration - when big games come up the man often delivers. He scored big goals in big games against the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City during his time here.

Not to mention his late equalising header for PSG when they came and knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League in 2014. And who could forget that phenomenal free-kick for Brazil in the 2014 World Cup against Colombia.

When the occasion demands he stands up to be counted.

2. He likes to bend the rules

Who doesn't? He famously had a sly grin on his face when Chelsea went to Old Trafford and his slight overly exaggerated fall resulted in a United man being sent off.

He also clearly has no regard for the referee's magic spray when he took it upon himself to wipe it out whilst playing for PSG against Chelsea.

3. Chelsea desperately need a defender

With John Terry going into what looks like his final year, Conte is well aware of the transition that needs to occur at the heart of Chelsea's defence. Kurt Zouma is the young pretender but he is out injured so having Luiz in the squad will add yet another option.

His versatility also allows him to play in a deep lying midfield role which adds another dimension should N'Golo Kante or Nemanja Matic suffer injury.

4. He has great hair!

Whether that Sideshow Bob-esque hair is a deliberate style choice or nature pulling a master stroke!

We all love it and seeing that curly mop bobbing up and down the Stamford Bridge turf would be a sight to see.

5. Capable of the spectacular

Five minutes to go and in need of a goal - who is likely to pull a rabbit out of the hat? Luiz is certainly a man capable of such magic.

He scored some wonder strikes whilst at the Bridge (that strike against Fulham or that left footed swinger against Basel) and seems to have perfected the free-kick technique used by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

Wherever he finds himself on the pitch he is always a danger and x-factor is something he does best.
