Transfer deadline day produces usual thrills and spills with deals going down to the wire and records being broken.

Chelsea have been involved in some of the biggest last-minute deals, but not all of them have been as successful as others.

Fernando Torres’ then record breaking transfer for £50 million scored highly with the English media even if the Spaniard didn’t score so strongly on the pitch before he moved on to AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Despite only scoring 20 goals in 110 games, his strike at the Nou Camp to secure their place in the Champions League final will always endear himself to the Blues faithful.

Similarly, Ashley Cole’s controversial move from London rivals Arsenal for a cash plus William Gallas deal captivated the media given the suspicious circumstances with which it took place.

But a Champions League, a Premier League title and four FA Cup’s later and the dubious defender has his place in Chelsea history.

Less high-profile transfers like the arrival of Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest and Michael Hector from Reading didn’t quite catch the attention like some of their compatriots and didn’t deliver like them either.

Interestingly, lightning could still be set to strike twice.

Five years on after David Luiz was helicoptered to Chelsea’s training ground ahead of his move from Benfica, the Brazilian defender is rumoured to be interested in returning to Stamford Bridge from PSG but time will tell as to whether the deal gets done.
