Chelsea are reportedly on the brink of confirming David Luiz’s sensational return to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues opened transfer talks with Paris Saint-Germain last night ahead of this evening’s transfer deadline.

Widespread reports are now claiming a fee of £32million has agreed and the Blues are preparing to make a formal announcement over the capture of the player.

Chelsea have been searching for a new centre-back all summer and Antonio Conte turned to Luiz after seeing bids rejected for Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessandro Romagnoli.

PSG had been reluctant to sell Luiz but will recoup a significant chunk of the £50million fee they paid the Blues for the Brazilian two years ago.

Luiz was a big fans’ favourite during his time with the Blues after joining the club from Benfica in 2011 in a deal worth £21million.

David Luiz's Chelsea career in pictures:

His erratic behaviour made for some worrying defensive lapses but his likeable character and battling performance in the 2012 Champions League triumph won over many supporters.

Luiz played 143 times for the Blues and scoring 12 goals, with his spectacular free-kicks becoming a hallmark of his time at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz’s personal terms are already understood to have been agreed but the complexity of the deal means a medical may be conducted after the deadline.

A cut-off point of 11pm is in place for English clubs to get deals done but extensions can be granted if both teams can show proof that a transfer is in the making before that time.
