Chelsea have reached an agreement with FC Basel for the transfer of Mohamed Salah, paving the way for Juan Mata to complete his move to Manchester United.
Mata was travelling up to Manchester by helicopter on Thursday for a medical but the Blues were waiting to tie up the Salah deal before signing off the Mata paperwork.
Liverpool have been chasing Egypt international Salah for weeks and Brendan Rodgers had been hoping to make the player his first January transfer window addition.
But the Anfield club were unable to agree on a fee for the midfielder and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho nipped in to wrap up a deal for the 21-year-old.
