Neal Ardley has vowed to fight tooth and nail to keep his centre-back loanees at AFC Wimbledon.

Cardiff's Adedeji Oshilaja and Millwall's Jake Goodman helped keep promotion-chasing Wycombe at bay in Saturday's 0-0 draw - a result which stretched the Dons' unbeaten run at Kingsmeadow to nine matches.

The point kept Dons on course to reach 60 points in League Two for the first time, leaving boss Ardley to reflect the current crop has the makings of Wimbledon's best yet.

With Oshilaja and Goodman pivotal to that success, while Ardley admits it will be an uphill battle to keep the pair from returning to their parent clubs, he promised fans he all that could be done would be done.

He said: "Who knows if we can keep them. I doubt it, especially in the case of Deji, but you never know and it is not something we will be giving up on."

Whether the spine of his defence remains in tact or not, Ardley is clear what he needs over the summer to turn what he termed 'a decent team' into one capable of going that one step further.

“We are looking at what a team to get in the playoffs would look like," he added.

"We have got that little bit of naivety in us at the moment. There's a lot of youthfulness and a lot of energy.

"So we need people who know how to see games out and how to hold a lead and someone who can score a goal and they are not easy to find.

"If we can get things right next season and get some momentum going then we have got the makings of a decent team, certainly the best one Wimbledon has ever had."
