Mark Byrne has been told he is not getting a new contract at Barnet.

The midfielder has made more than 100 appearances for the Bees but will leave the Hive this summer.

Boss Martin Allen had initially expressed a desire to hold onto the former Nottingham Forest star.

However, the club has had a change of heart and Byrne will officially depart when his deal expires at the end of June.

“On Friday I had a chat with Mark and I have decided that we are not in a position to offer him a new contract,” Allen said.

“Mark has been a fantastic asset to this football club, he is a great lad and as a person he is a diamond.

“It was a very difficult decision for me and I wish him the very best of luck in the future as I am sure all Barnet supporters do.”

While Byrne will be heading out the door at the Hive, Allen is hopeful of bringing in a few new faces sooner rather than later.

“Of course at this time of the year there is much speculation, ifs and buts and rumours but we will make no comment on any potential signings and talks until they are confirmed,” added the Bees boss.

“I hope to conclude a number of deals ASAP to get this place buzzing again.”
