Dean Smith has rejected suggestions Brentford are interested in taking Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom on loan.

The Bees head coach has regular recruitment meetings with the co-directors of football Phil Giles and Rasmus Ankersen.

The Gunners man spent a loan spell at Griffin Park in 2014 but a return to west London doesn't seem to be in the offing.

He said: “We've not discussed Chuba. He's been here before. We have regular recruitment meetings. He's not one that has been discussed at length.”

Florian Jozefzoon

Brentford are close to signing Florian Jozefzoon with the Dutchman undergoing a medical at Griffin Park on Thurday. Smith, though, kept things cool on that issue.

“I can confirm we've been in negotiations but until it's complete, we try and keep it private until the deal is done,” he added.

“Sam Saunders left last week so it's a case of one out, one in so we'll try and get that deal but if not we'll move on.”
