Brentford have signed former Morecambe midfielder Ryan Williams on a one-year contract after his deal in the north west expired.

The 24-year-old started his career at Chester City before joining Colwyn Bay in 2010.

He remainied in the Welsh league for a further two years, having spells at Llandudno and Rhyl before moving to Morecambe in 2012.

Williams made his debut in January 2013 and scored a spectacular goal from 25 yards.

He also scored a marvellous goal against Wolves to beat them in the League Cup in the 2013/14 season.

During Williams' time at the Globe Arena, he scored five goals in 53 league appearances and his ability from free kicks will have impressed Brentford's football department.

Phil Giles, Brentford's co-director of football, told the official site: “We are delighted to welcome Ryan to Brentford.

“Ryan is a player who we feel has a lot of unreleased potential and we can really help develop him over the season."
