Brentford have opened talks with captain Harlee Dean over a new contract.

The Bees skipper has just over 12 months left on his current deal, which he agreed in February 2016.

The west Londoners will not let any player walk away for nothing at the end of their deal so, if a contract can't be agreed, then the club would look to cash in on their talent much like they did with Jake Bidwell and David Button last summer.

Talks are currently at an early stage but the club and captain will sit down at the end of the season in the hope of thrashing out a new deal.

Dean confirmed: “There has been talks but I can't really say anything. It's early days and we'll sit down at the end of the season.”

Last time, talks stalled with the defender looking likely to leave Brentford, but after James Tarkowski's acrimonious departure, a new contract was agreed.
