Brentford are in the hunt for another left back to give Jake Bidwell cover but they have no intention of selling the former Everton man.
Fulham were reportedly interested in the 22-year-old but turned their attention towards his former Toffees team-mate, Luke Garbutt.
Bidwell had a solid season in the Championship last year but the Bees have no specialist replacement should the left back get injured or suspended and head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen confirmed the club are looking for backup.
He said: “That's a position we're vulnerable in. It's one of the most difficult positions to fill. It's very difficult to find something there.
“I think Jake has improved already and can improve further. I like his attitude. It'd be good to have a youngster pushing him.”
Brentford travel to Luton on Tuesday night for their penultimate pre-season friendly and they end their build-up against last season's Championship play-off winners, Norwich on Saturday.
