Brentford hope they will entice Patrick Bamford to join them on loan by telling the Chelsea forward he can play where he wants.

Get West London has learned Bees will explain to the highly coveted youngster he can take up a slot down his favoured centre rather than out wide as the 20-year-old was required at Derby last season.

The club face stiff opposition from QPR and Wolves - to name but two - but like their Rangers neighbours, it would mean Bamford staying in London while potentially getting more games than he might at Loftus Road.

No go: Andy Johnson

Bees have also prioritised a youth recruitment drive to blend with experienced players - one of the reasons they turned down an offer to sign 33-year-old Andy Johnson this week,  released by QPR at the end of the season.
