Brentford have handed a trial to former QPR and Cardiff City forward Tommy Smith.

The 34-year-old has been without a club since leaving the Bluebirds in May after a disappointing two seasons in South Wales.

Smith, who started his career at Watford, has also played for Sunderland, Derby and Portsmouth, and has racked up more than 500 career appearances.

The wide man trained with the Bees at their Jersey Road base this morning and could play a part in Thursday's pre-season friendly with Boreham Wood.
