Brentford goalkeeper Jack Bonham has signed a one-year extension with the club and joined Carlisle United on loan.

The 23-year-old will remain at Griffin Park until 2019 but, for the next six months, will head to Cumbria for the remainder of the year, linking up at pre-season training this week.

Bonham has found playing time limited, despite being in the majority of matchday squads, featuring in seven games since joining the club in 2013, his most recent game being the Easter Monday draw at Barnsley.

Both Dean Smith and goalkeeper coach Simon Royce believe that Bonham needs games to thrive and have allowed him to join the Cumbrians on loan for six months.

The Brentford head coach said: “We all believe that Jack has great potential. But to fulfil this potential he needs to play matches. Carlisle will give him a wonderful chance to do this.”

Bonham started his career at Watford and made one appearance, against Leeds, on the final day of the 2012/13 season when he started the day outside the matchday squad but after two freak injuries to goalkeepers forced him into action.
