Brentford are hopeful of re-signing Wigan Athletic defender Rob Kiernan before the weekend.
The Chronicle reported last week that the Bees want to bring the former Watford youngster back for another spell at Griffin Park.
Kiernan made nine appearances for Brentford last season before injury cut short his spell in west London.
However, the 23-year-old, who played 15 times for League Two Southend United earlier this campaign, could be set for a return to TW8.
Kiernan is cup-tied for the Latics' FA Cup third round replay at MK Dons tonight, and will be given the green light to head out on loan providing Uwe Rosler's side don't suffer any injuries.
