Brentford have completed the signing of Sullay KaiKai from Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Southwark, impressed while on loan at Shrewsbury last season, finishing as top scorer, and is highly rated at Selhurst Park.
Smith said: “I am really pleased to have Sullay join us for the season, I am thankful to Alan Pardew and Crystal Palace for making this happen.
"Sullay is a player I feel will enhance our squad, he brings pace, energy and goals and is a player we have watched several times at Crystal Palace and Shrewsbury last season where he excelled.
"I believe we can help him on his development pathway and he will certainly help us fulfill our ambitions.”
Kaikai has been with the Eagles since he was 15 and won the League Football Education Goal of the Season award for his strike against Liverpool.
He had a brief loan spell at Crawley Town before a longer one at Cambridge United, scoring five goals in 25 appearances for the U's.
He first joined Shrewsbury in September 2015 and had a productive spell where he scored five goals in 14 league appearances before injury forced him to return to south London.
After recovering, he returned to New Meadow and his form was even better; bagging seven goals from just 12 games to help the Shropshire side stay in the third tier.
Phil Giles, Co-Director of Football, added: “Sullay has been a priority target for the whole of this transfer window. We had to wait until the very last day for Crystal Palace to agree to our request for the loan.
"It was a risk for us to wait to see if this loan would happen whilst turning down other opportunities, so I'm glad that our patience has been rewarded.
"We believe that Sullay will be a perfect fit at Brentford this season, and look forward to him joining the squad at training tomorrow.”
