Mark Warburton refused to be drawn on rumours linking his Brentford side with a move for Scott Hogan – but did not rule out a move for the Rochdale striker.

The Bees are believed to be one of a number of sides, along with Leeds and Wolves, chasing the 22 year old, who netted 19 goals for the Dale last season.

Warburton is understood to be close to completing a move for Hogan as he looks to replace the goals of Clayton Donaldson, who was snapped up by Birmingham City last month.

He said: “We hope to have one or two more in by the start of the season, and we are making good progress on the striker front.

Clever: Andre Gray, who made his Brentford debut last night, in action for former club Luton

“Ideally you'd like all your signings in place by the end of June, but you have to be patient, and if you rush things, sometimes you miss out.”

Warburton was pleased, however, with his three summer signings who, along with the returning Alan Judge, made their debuts in last night's friendly win over Boreham Wood.

He added: “Andre (Gray) is an athlete, strong and quick, who makes clever runs but also comes deep and works in the holes behind, and we have to recognise that.

“Marcos (Taber) is a talented player who is technically very good, while Moses (Odubajo) is another talented athlete who is a good ball player and likes to take it on.”
