A striker coming in through the door at Brentford remains the priority for all concerned at the club.

The Bees have Lasse Vibe as their only experienced senior striker with Justin Shaibu to be given a chance in pre-season to earn a spot in the senior squad.

However, with Philipp Hofmann and Scott Hogan leaving the club in the last year, having a raw frontman as the only other option is not enough and the club have been working hard on it.

The transfer window does not open until July 1 and, while head coach Dean Smith wants a frontman through the door as early as possible, he accepts it may take longer.

“A striker is still the priority. We're working very hard. I've been on the phone with the directors of football and Andy Scott and it's something we're trying to sort out as soon as possible,” he said.

“I'd like it to be early in the window but it could be close to the end of the window. Most contracts run out on June 30 so sorting deals out before then is very difficult.”

Brentford return to pre-season training on Monday June 26, although Vibe will return later after being involved on international duty, while the transfer window is set to open on July 1.
