Dean Smith has remained silent over reports that Brentford have made a bid for Exeter striker Ollie Watkins.

The Bees are in the market for another frontman to compliment Scott Hogan, Philipp Hofmann and Lasse Vibe, especially with the Dane heading to Brazil to compete in the Olympics.

Smith confirmed that the club are still in the market looking for two or three more players ahead of the big kick-off on August 6.

It is unlikely that any new faces will be through the door before Saturday's fixture against German side Kaiserslautern but Smith is optimistic a deal could be in place by next Tuesday.

“Ollie Watkins is an Exeter player and I wouldn't talk about other teams' players,” Smith said.

“We're still looking to bring in two or three players to strengthen the squad.

“Hopefully that'll be done sooner rather than later. I don't think it'll be before Saturday. It could be before next Tuesday.”

Brentford started against Wycombe playing three centre defenders and Smith is keen for his side to be flexible.

He added: “We have to have tactical flexibility. The season is tough and we don't want to be predictable at any stage.

“We do our homework on opposition and they will do on us and we want to make it difficult for them to read us. It's something we can flick to.”
