Brentford are poised to complete the loan signing of Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom early next week.

The Chronicle revealed yesterday that the Bees were leading the chase to sign the highly-rated 18-year-old, who made his first-team debut for the Gunners earlier this season.

Peterborough, Leyton Orient and MK Dons are also interested in landing Akpom, but Brentford are in advanced discussions to secure his signature on an initial one-month deal.

The frontman is scheduled to play for Arsenal's Under-18s in their FA Youth Cup tie against Peterborough on Monday, but should be signed in time for the League One clash with Port Vale at Griffin Park on January 11.

Akpom is well known to the Bees, with head of academy recruitment Shaun O'Connor responsible for bringing the youngster to the Premier League club more than a decade ago.
