Birmingham are set to win the race to sign Brentford defender Harlee Dean, for a fee believed to be in the region of £2million.

Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds had all expressed an interest in the centre back over the course of the summer.

Dean only has one year remaining on his contract and there is no likelihood of him signing a new deal, meaning the west Londoners are keen to cash in this summer rather than lose a player for nothing next summer.

The Blues had been interested in Bristol City defender Aden Flint but the Robins have held firm over the course of the transfer window.

And Harry Redknapp has turned his attention to Harlee Dean in a bid to bolster his defence.

Brentford have plenty of options at centre back with John Egan, Andreas Bjelland and Yoann Barbet among the senior players with Chris Mepham and Emmanuel Onariase options from the B team.
