Brentford are set to sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Alan Judge on loan for the rest of the season.

The Chronicle revealed last week that the Bees were battling it out with League One rivals Sheffield United for the out-of-favour Irishman, who has started just seven games this term.

Judge has been given the green light to leave Ewood Park after talks with Rovers boss Gary Bowyer, and is due in London to complete the deal later today.

But Brentford's move for Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom could be in doubt after a serious knee injury to Theo Walcott.

The Bees are in advanced discussions to sign the highly-rated 18-year-old, who scored a hat-trick in last night's FA Youth Cup win at Peterborough.

But with Walcott set for six months on the sidelines after rupturing his cruciate ligament, it is feared the Gunners could pull the plug on the deal and keep Akpom at the Emirates as cover.
