Neal Ardley has confirmed he is considering opening contract talks with Lyle Taylor and says only a ridiculous offer would see him leave Kingsmeadow.

The talented marksman starred for Wimbledon in his debut campaign as he fired the club to promotion with 23 goals, with GetWestLondon revealing earlier this month that talks were in the pipeline.

He signed off the season as a hero after scoring in the play-off final at Wembley to seal a spot in League One for next term.

His performances have not gone unnoticed by Championship and third-tier sides and whispers had previously emerged that clubs such as Brentford, Reading and Coventry are keeping tabs on Taylor.

Being able to offer Taylor a higher level of football has gone a long way to assuring the forward the Dons are able to match his ambitions for the future.

Ardley is confident that his star striker, as well as his other key players, will be at Wimbledon come the big kick-off against Walsall.

Applause: Wimbledon's Lyle Taylor

He said: “People will get worried but I don’t see a problem. Unless someone comes in with ridiculous money for players like that then we’re not going to entertain it.

Lyle Taylor is our player and, if anything, we might try and sit down with him and see if there’s an interest from both parties to carry on and extend.

“At the moment, I’m not worried about any of that. Lyle Taylor is here for next season, so is Jake Reeves, and so are lots of other quality players.

“We want to add to it and for these players to look around in pre-season and think what a decent team we are.”

AFC Wimbledon took a similar step to keep hold of Adebayo Akinfenwa, handing him improved terms last summer, amid strong interest from the United States.

Akinfenwa had collected two club awards that season after impressing in his debut campaign, with the powerhouse bowing out after May’s Wembley triumph.
