AFC Wimbledon have been dealt a blow in their hunt for a defender after Cardiff defender Deji Oshilaja moved to Gillingham on loan until January.

The centre back, who has made three appearances for the Bluebirds, made 23 appearances for the Dons last season and scored once.

The 21-year-old impressed Neal Ardley during his time at Kingsmeadow last season and the Dons had been keen to see the former Tottenham defender return this summer.

Oshilaja said: “I’m really happy to be here, I spoke to the Manager and the staff and everybody has been really welcoming. Every player can’t wait for the season to start.”

Gills boss Justin Edinburgh was delighted to capture the young defender.

He said: “Having worked with Deji at Newport County I know what he is capable of and was keen to get him on board here at Gillingham if it were possible.

"We thank Cardiff for allowing him to join us and we look forward to working with him.”
