AFC Wimbledon want their search for a new goalscorer concluded before they head on their pre-season tour to Spain.

The Dons are understood to be close to agreeing a deal for a new marksman and the only sticking point appears to be a transfer fee for the player.

Neal Ardley is taking his side for a warm-weather training camp to July and ideally wants to take all of his new signings to La Manga to help them settle into the group.

A striker and a central defender are the two remaining targets on Ardley’s shopping list and the Wimbledon boss says he won’t be afraid to play three forwards if necessary next season.

Ardley said: “We want another striker and we want another centre half so there’s two positions.

Taking on Watford: Jake Reeves

“We have options, it’s just a case of adding one or two more to really add the egde to the team.

“There’ll be another striker to come in and we aren’t afraid to play three up top.

“You need 65 goals minimum if you’re going to have a season that puts you in that top seven we need to make sure we have enough players on the pitch.”

Tom Elliott has already joined from Cambridge to supplement the Wimbledon strike-force and looked lively in the Dons’ pre-season opener with Watford alongside Bayo Akinfenwa.
