AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley is due to meet with one of his top transfer targets next week and expects deals to start going through before the end of the month.

The Dons are yet to make any summer signings but have agreed new deals with Bayo Akinfenwa and Callum Kennedy in the past few days.

Five players were allowed to leave at the end of the season and a shortlist of seven players was drawn up as Wimbledon look to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

Ardley says we are now approaching the critical point in negotiations.

“The back two weeks of June are when things really get going,” he told Dons Player.

“It’s the time of year when you do get some disappointments and some joy.

“We’ve got some very strong offers on the table for players who are out players. Two of them are away on holiday and one of them I’ve got plans to meet with next week.

“We’re waiting on the other two. They’re in the balance. In some cases they’ve got League One clubs after them.

“In other cases, there’s players at other clubs where we think there might be a chance.

“They are in with their clubs the next few weeks but you might have to wait for the other clubs to get their signings in first before they will let them go.

“It’ll be like London buses. There will be a week when all the week starts coming at once.”
