Ryman One North: Change could be afoot at Northwood with anything up to five players coming or going this week.

Dave Anderson is tantalisingly close to signing a new striker and three midfielders are in his sights too.

Meanwhile, Michael Gordon, who last week was the subject of an approach from Blue Square Premier side Grays Athletic, could be on his way although Essex is now looking unlikely to be his destination.

"I spoke to Gary Phillips (Grays manager) and he said he doesn't think the deal will go ahead but we've also received a seven-dayer from Hitchin, so we'll see what happens with that," said Anderson. "We're very close to signing a centre forward whose had Ryman Premier experience, hopefully in time for Saturday, and there is a possibility of two or three players joining in the next week or so.

"It's a good time to bring in some freshness because we'll have a lot of games coming up.

"I'm looking at a couple of wide play-ers because we're obviously aware there's a lot of interest in Michael Gordon.

"I don't know if he's made his mind up because I haven't been able to speak to him yet.

"One player can play centrally or wide or up front and two are wide lads - we could end up signing all of them, one of them or none of them."

Former Woods boss Colin Payne was appointed manager of Hitchin last week and he wasted no time as he came calling for Gordon, hoping the right midfielder can provide the service to haul the Hertfordshire club, fourth bottom in the Southern League Premier Division, out of relegation trouble.

Meanwhile, the Woods trained early on Saturday so that the squad could go to Bournemouth to celebrate Brad Hewitt's 21st birthday.

* Northwood's twice postponed Middlesex Charity Cup tie at home to North Greenford United, scheduled for last night (Tuesday), was again in doubt after more rain.

If it was called off both Anderson and his opposite number,ex-Hillingdon Borough boss Steve Ringrose, have agreed to try and play the match today (Wednesday) or tomorrow, either home or away,if it means getting the game on.
