QPR’s caretaker boss has a plan to deal with Jermain Defoe - after all, both were at the same club for five years.

Chris Ramsey goes in search of a first away point of the season at Sunderland tonight trying to do his best to stop the Black Cats newest striker.

The 32-year-old was at Tottenham with Ramsey trying to win honours in north London. Now, they are on opposite sides of a big divide, with the temporary manager hoping he will keep the ex-Hoops target quiet.

“He scored a lot of goals in that D area around the box,” said Ramsey. “We need to keep him away from there and from turning on to his right foot, because he has that little shimmy and he’s one of the best at scoring from those areas.

“If we can get goal side and stop him turning, it’s going to be a big advantage.”

Ramsey is coming to terms with a 1-0 defeat against Southampton on Saturday, in which he blamed certain players for failing to put in the full shift.

So what do you think? Caretaker manager Chris Ramsey and assistant manager Kevin Bond

However, he maintains there is a decent spirit in the camp, and more importantly, intrinsic belief there is still enough to quality to dig themselves out of a relegation hole.

Ramsey added: “The squad’s good enough to stay up. I can put an act on and say the right things, but the players themselves have to believe it, and as far as I can see, they do.”
