A group of QPR fans campaigning to get Rs hero Stan Bowles a belated benefit game will take their fight to Loftus Road next Saturday.

Bowles was never given a testimonial by Rangers, despite scoring almost 100 goals in more than 300 games over seven years for the club, and being seen by many as their best ever player, as he did not play for them for 10 years.

A petition by a group called Stan Bowles Benefit has so far gained almost 1,500 online signatures, as well as many more thousands on paper, and are not only looking for help to grab more at Saturday's friendly with Watford, but are aiming to get the whole of Loftus Road signing Bowles' name in the 10th minute (Stan's shirt number).

One of those behind the petition is former QPR coach John Creith, who now manages the U18s at Hendon, whose first team last week went down 5-4 in a thrilling friendly to QPR U21s.

Creith said: “We are in positive talks with head of media Ian Taylor and chief executive Lee Hoos, who are analysing our proposal to put it to the board. We are very hopeful of this step forward.

“Our Twitter petition is going well. We have hard copies in all pubs around Shepherd's Bush, and we are targeting the pre-season games to gather more.

“We do, however, need fans to come on board to help us move forward as Stephen Flannery and I can only do so much. We need to form a committee of people to help us with PR, sponsorship, advertising and bringing players in to play.

“As we are not experts in this area we are asking for support from in area that QPR fans can help us in, so we are in as strong as position as possible to convince the club to put this game on. All proceeds will go to Stan.”

At least four volunteers for each stand are needed to help with the petition on Saturday. Send a tweet to @StanBenefit, @JCreith or @stevflann if you can help.
