NORTHWOOD FC start pre-season training today (Thursday) without last season's skipper Bradley Hewitt after the defender quit the club.

The captain's departure comes after budget cuts at the Zamaretto Division One Central club and fellow central defender, Michael Peacock – who won Supporters' Player of the year for 2009/2010 – has also left Chestnut Avenue.

The pair have been linked with moves to Hemel Hempstead and Hendon respectively and manager Mark Barnham has already made plans to replace them.

Barnham will have ten new faces at pre season and is also placing a greater emphasis on bringing youngsters through the club's academy.

“I am hoping to keep most of the players that we had here last season,” he said. “Those that have left, only stayed with us to help us out after the playing budget was cut.

“It will be an interesting close season for us, we will be taking a look at new players in pre-season. You have to look at youth and developing players when you have no money and I was not happy with the way that has been going.”

Northwood will start next season in the newly formed Zamaretto Division One Central after switching from the Ryman's League.

This move will save the club money as their fixture list includes big games against their main local rivals, including AFC Hayes, Beaconsfield SYCOB, Bedfont Town, North Greenford, Uxbridge and Ashford Town.

Northwood are looking for applicants for the position of youth team manager, candidates should contact Mark Barnham on 07951477618 before Friday's deadline.
