Wealdstone 1-2 Bath City

Wealdstone's miserable record continued in the Conference South as Gordon Bartlett's men succumbed to another crushing defeat against Bath City at the Vale, reports James Keith.

The Stones sit bottom of the table and are waiting for their maiden victory while Lee Howells' men extend the gap between themselves and last night's hosts to three points.

The match took a while to settle down as both sides looked nervous in a telling fixture but it was the visitors who took a vital lead.

Against the run of play, Ross Stearn connected well with an attempted overhead kick which flew past Jonathan North in the 37th minute.

The newly-promoted side nearly grabbed an equaliser just after the restart through Nikki Ahamed but went in at half-time trailing.

As the second half progressed things went from bad to worse for Bartlett and co. as striker Scott McGleish was saw red for a second bookable offence.

The visitors capitalised, doubling their lead through David Pratt as the striker ran clear to score past a helpless North.

Bath City looked comfortable, but substitute Michael Malcolm grabbed a late consolation with a minute to spare; curling a lovely shot past Jason Mellor.

City grabbed all three points, while Wealdstone have lost three of their last four home games and travel to Concord Rangers on Saturday who sit 16th in the Conference South.

Meanwhile, Wealdstone's Ladies gave very different performances on the weekend as the first team lost while the reserves secured their first win of a new season.

Stones' first team took on AFC Wimbledon in a difficult away fixture while the reserves hosted Tower Hamlets.

Wimbledon delivered a solid performance to defeat Gary Harling's ladies, taking in a 3-0 lead at half-time before scoring the fourth in the second half through a lovely free-kick.

Natalie Osman and Danielle Ford both grabbed consolation goals but it wasn't enough as their next game is against Northwood on Sunday.

The ladies' reserves, meanwhile, hammered Tower Hamlets 3-1 in the opening fixture of the GLWFL Division Two season; Annie Hewitt grabbing a goal while Ruby Juchau scored a brace. Their next matchup is away to Brook House on Sunday.
