Two late goals derailed Wealdstone as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Boreham Wood in the Vanarama Conference South.

After Johnny Wright gave the visitors an early lead, high-flying Boreham Wood were held at bay until the 86th minute, scoring twice in quick succession to send the visitors home without a share in the spoils.

The result leaves Stones third from bottom, having played an alarming three matches more than their fellow strugglers.

After a bright start, the visitors took the lead when Connor Calcutt knocked a ball down across the box for Wright to finish well over keeper James Russell.

Boreham Wood were left rocking, and piled on the pressure in search of an immediate equaliser, but to no avail.

A defence shepherded by Ryan Watts helped to keep chances to a minimum, while Jon North kept out anything the hosts could procure.

Calcutt’s diving header may have sewn up the game for Stones but Russell saved brilliantly, before Stones retreated further and further back.

They couldn’t hold on for the points, however, as Lee Angol first netted from a scrappy goalmouth scramble three minutes from time, before Sam Cox completed the turn around in injury time.

Meanwhile, Stones fans can look forward to an extra special match day on Saturday, November 22 when Conference sponsor Vanarama visits the ground offering a fun-filled day of Vuvuzellas, music and the chance for fans to win a shirt signed by the team.
