Wealdstone 1-0 Staines

Wealdstone continued their unbeaten run against Staines on Saturday but Gordon Bartlett admitted it was poor performance from his players.

The Stones secured a 1-0 win at the Vale and made it five games unbeaten in all competitions, having only conceded one goal.

They got off to a flyer through Dan Brown within six minutes, the midfielder latching onto a Shaun Lucien cross to slide in and send the home fans into euphoria.

But Bartlett made it clear he wasn’t satisfied with how his team saw out the game, nonetheless claimed to be happy his side collected three points.

He said: “I thought we were very good for the first 15 and probably should have been 3-0 up but then we seemed to take our foot off the pedal.

“We couldn’t’ regain that momentum and for the rest of the game I thought we were poor. I was disappointed but am grateful for the win.”

In the second half Staines lost their composure and the heat of the fixture got to the players.

Chris M’Boungou and Bajram Pashaj both saw red while manager Marcus Gayle was also sent to the stands.

In Bartlett’s eye he knew The Massive were having a difficult time and it was about making sure they keep the pressure on.

However his side didn’t capitalise on the visitors going down to nine-men and was frustrated with the closing stages of the match.

He said: “They haven’t had the best of times lately and we know what that is like, so the mind-set was to get on the front foot and build on that and keep them at bay.

“But I felt they were better than us in the second half, even when they went down to nine men their energy levels were higher than ours.

“We were at panic stations at times, but that is what you get when you are at the bottom clinging on for points.”

Meanwhile, Staines Town officials have confirmed they will report referee Michael George to the FA following the game at Grosvenor Vale.
