Valentine’s Day was clearly still on Tony Choules’ mind as he declared his love for his Uxbridge players on Saturday after they picked up their first league point since the turn of the year.

The Reds boss showered his team with affection after a spellbinding second-half performance against neighbours Chalfont.

However, profligacy in front of goal denied the west Londoners the chance to run amok and improve their negative goal difference.

New signing Melford Simpson towered above the opponents when he entered the fray after 60 minutes to make his Uxbridge debut.

The giant of a man could have made a dream start for his latest club but those hopes rapidly floated away as his shot ballooned over the bar to keep both sides level.

Although Uxbridge did have their shooting boots on at times, they found Chalfont keeper, Michael Power-Simpson, in inspired mood as he deservedly picked up the man of the match award.

Uxbridge were on the front foot from the opening minutes of the tie as cup hat-trick hero Craig Tomkins delivered an inviting cross into the box however team-mate Matty Woods wished he was only an inch taller as the ball skimmed off the top of his boot.

Woods made up for the miss moments later but still could not beat a determined Power-Simpson between the sticks - showing off his cat-like reflexes.

Uxbridge keeper Paul McCarthy was not happy with his defenders after they gave Romaine Walker too much time on the ball and the Chalfont man thanked them by opening the scoring after 12 minutes.

The opponents dominated the remainder of the first half but fortunately Uxbridge grabbed an equaliser against the run of play before the break.

It was going to take something special to beat the Chalfont stopper and Callum Madigan delivered with a wicked curling effort into the roof of the net.

The second half belonged to Uxbridge who dominated for large spells but were unable to find that killer blow.

Woods was once again denied by the Chalfont custodian and almost got his just rewards in the last minute when Power-Simpson missed his kick but he somehow made up for it with a goal-saving tackle on the unlucky Woods.
