Matty Woods’ second-half goal earned Uxbridge a point as they drew 1-1 at home to struggling Leighton Town in the Southern League Division One Central.

The game came to life after a sluggish first-half in which Kevin Warner had a goal disallowed for offside.

Shortly after the break, Chris Moore was foiled by Buzzards keeper Dan Green.

Woods broke the deadlock in the 51st minute with a determined strike after beating two defenders and Green in the Leighton goal.

The Reds could not keep up the pressure however and conceded to a Mark Bunker equaliser just past the hour.

The visitors gained the upper-hand in the final 30 minutes and the Reds did well to hang on for the draw.

Uxbridge visit Chalfont St Peter on Saturday who sit above them in the table where they will hope to go into Christmas with a win under their belt.

Elsewhere in the league, fourth-placed Hanwell Town battled to a 1-1 draw away to Rugby Town who sit one place behind them in the table.

Hanwell have another tough match on Saturday when they play at home to Godalming Town.

Bill Healy scored in the 62nd minute for the Geordies, after conceding early on to a Craig Kelly strike.

Northwood are 16th in the table after their trip to lowly Beaconsfield SYCOB ended goalless.

The Woods must regroup before playing top of the table Kettering Town on Saturday.

Bottom of the table AFC Hayes were beaten 2-0 at home to promotion-chasing Bedworth United after David Blekinsopp and Andrew Westwood goals either side of the break.

The Brook travel to Northamptonshire on Saturday to play Daventry Town who sit 17th in the table.

Struggling North Greenford United’s home-tie versus mid-table Egham Town was postponed due to a frozen and waterlogged pitch.

North Greenford host Barton Rovers on Tuesday night in a tough encounter for the Blues.
