Brentford's season was summed up in 90 minutes as they were beaten 3-2 at Reading.

John Swift had given Reading the lead before the Bees hit back to lead through Jota and Lasse Vibe.

Danny Williams equalised before Roy Beerens tapped home after Dan Bentley's fluffed clearance.

It was a cruel result on the Bees who more than matched the fourth placed side for most of the game.

Below are five talking points to take away from the Madejski Stadium.

Season in 90 minutes

Lasse Vibe celebrates his goal

The majority of Brentford's recent away games have all followed a similar pattern. When Brentford have been on the ball, they've created chances but have been profligate in front of goal.

They have spells when they do find the net, as in the three minute spell where Jota and Lasse Vibe, found the net.

But they also have had poor spells which always result in a goal conceded.

At the Madejski Stadium, the Bees went through a flat spell, struggling to string passes together and Reading punished them.

It was a performance that has typified Brentford's season in 90 minutes. Flat. Wasteful. Devastating. Collapse.

Canos tries to repeat THAT goal

Sergi Canos

Sergi Canos scored Brentford's goal of the season at Reading last year with a brilliant strike and he was trying to repeat the trick.

However, this time, the ball fell the wrong side of the post from his perspective.

Canos was given an hour until he was replaced by Florian Jozefzoon and it was a promising first start from the Spaniard, who caused problems when on the ball at all times.

Give him time and he will produce the form he showed at Griffin Park last season.

Revenge of the ex Bee

Opening goal: John Swift

John Swift was not a popular figure during his loan spell at Griffin Park with many fans seeing the former Chelsea man as lazy.

It was no surprise that he popped up with the opening goal as he finished off flowing Reading attack that caused Maxime Colin to turn the ball onto his own post.

Given his relationship with the Brentford fans, it was no surprise to see Swift celebrate.

There were nearly goals for former Bees Liam Moore and Lewis Grabban and the pair should have done better with the chances presented to them.

If in doubt, kick it out

Goalkeeper: Dan Bentley

Dan Bentley will not be happy with Reading's winner after he fluffed his clearance straight to Yann Kermorgant.

In hindsight, he should have kicked the ball into touch but tried to play it out and got punished.

That said, Bentley has saved more points than he has lost for Brentford this season and it shouldn't be held against him.

Hogan not missed but defence is a concern

Lasse Vibe celebrates his goal

Brentford have scored 10 goals in four games since Hogan's departure from TW8 with Lasse Vibe (three), Jota (two), Nico Yennaris, Tom Field, Maxime Colin, Harlee Dean and Konstantin Kerschbaumer finding the net.

They have conceded 10 goals in their last three games through with Brighton scoring three, Preston scoring four and Reading scoring three.

The Bees must learn to be tighter at the back and keep it to zeroes and ones and that will win football matches.

A lack of pace at the back has cost them as well with sides happy to attack with pace.
