Blackpool 0–2 QPR

Matt Phillips terrorised Blackpool on his return to Bloomfield Road with a goal and an assist in QPR's 2-0 win this afternoon.

It was less than a fortnight ago that Phillips, who joined the Rs from the Seasiders back in August, opened his account with the third and final goal in the 3-0 rout of Bournemouth.

But if that goal was just the icing on the cake of a win already in the bag, his strike at Blackpool could not have come at a more important moment.

With the two teams above them in the Championship table, Burnley and Leicester, playing out a 1-1 draw in the early kick off, the way was paved for Rs to go top if they could win on the north west coast.

And so too they did, but it took until the hour mark, having survived a first half Blackpool bombardment, taking the lead on he hour mark when Jermaine Jenas teed up Phillips to score against his former club with a left-footed strike from outside the area.

Phillips came close to bagging a second soon after, this time from the right hand edge of the area, having been put in by Nico Kranjcar, but six more minutes on it was 2-0 when Phillips turned provider with a cross which Charlie Austin nodded home into the top corner.

All of which put the new league leaders two points clear of Burnley in second and four ahead of Leicester in third, who they host at Loftus Road next Saturday.
