Fulham bowed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Bristol City as Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham scored a 90th minute winner.

The Whites were made to pay for not being out of sight in a dominant first half and fellow Blues loanee Lucas Piazon's opening goal was cancelled out by Aaron Wilbraham before half-time.

Cauley Woodrow saw a second half penalty saved and Wilbraham fired wide from eight yards before Abraham decided matters.

Below are talking points from the Whites' cup disappointment.

Why boo?

Fulham fans in the season opener against Newcastle

The full time whistle was greeted by boos from the home crowd and, while I respect the fact supporters pay their money and have a right to be heard frankly, there was no need for the Fulham players to get that treatment.

Slavisa Jokanovic made 11 changes to the XI that played at Wigan on Saturday to freshen up his squad and give his academy starlets a run-out.

Tim Ream, who is 29 next month, was the oldest player on the pitch for the Whites with Dennis Adeniran at just 17 the youngest.

Jesse Joronen, Cauley Woodrow, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Lasse Vigen Christensen, Adeniran, Adetayo Edun and Luca De La Torre are all making their way in the game so what will booing accomplish in this situation? Nothing. It'll only harm their confidence at a time when they need the support of the crowd.

Academy adventure over for now

Dennis Adeniran

Jokanovic used the competition to give Adeniran, Edun, De La Torre and Ryan Sessegnon debuts and first team experience.

Of course, Sessegnon has gone on to be a regular in the first team, so much so that he is rested for the EFL Cup.

However, it will not be long until Adeniran, Edun, De La Torre will be joining him in the first team.

Sessegnon is a one-off talent to be able to cope with first team training and first team games at 16. Adeniran, Edun and De La Torre might be older but with time they will be regulars as well.

There is a bright future at Fulham still, despite the trio's chances of first team games ending for now.

Promising Piazon

Lucas Piazon of Chelsea in action

Lucas Piazon marked his Fulham debut with a goal and he looked lively every time he got the ball.

The Brazilian was deployed in the number 10 role, which he first started doing at Reading last season, and he produced a strong performance when the Whites were attacking.

There is a good player there and he will certainly be vying for a starting berth against the same opposition on Saturday.

Amazing Abraham

Goalscorer: Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham came on in the closing stages of the contest and was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch.

The Fulham defence will need to have watched and learned from tonight's game in order to keep him quiet on Saturday, when he will inevitably start.

Abraham has pace, power and trickery that can give defenders a nightmare. Fulham must develop a game plan to keep him quiet.

Missed chances cost Whites

Fulham missed a hatful of chances in the first half to put the game to bed. Scott Malone was unfortunate with a couple of shots that just went past the post.

Cauley Woodrow had the best chances but it was not his night and it was capped off when he missed the penalty at 1-1.

These things happen though and it will be a learning curve for all the players involved.
