Brentford 4-1 Huddersfield

Brentford took advantage of Ipswich not playing to return to the play-offs after a win over a physical Hudderfield side.

Chris Long gave the Bees a fourth minute lead after he created space for himself and powered an effort into the bottom corner.

However, the Terriers equalised midway through the first-half as Harry Bunn was allowed too much time and space to slot his shot past David Button in the Brentford goal.

But, after magnificent work from Jota, the Bees retook the lead six minutes into the second half as Long dispatched his shot into the top corner.

Alex Pritchard put the game to bed with 70 minutes on the clock as his shot took a deflection to deceive Alex Smithies.

And Jon Toral, on loan from Arsenal, made it four in stoppage time as he shot home from 20 yards.

Brentford raced out of the blocks and took the lead inside the first four minutes as Pritchard fed Long, who spun his way past the Huddersfield defence and rifled a 20-yard effort into the net.

The Bees could have been out of sight before the 10 minute mark as Jonathan Douglas shot straight at Alex Smithies after being clean through.

Then, Long could have had his second after a lung-bursting run from Toumani Diagouraga but the Everton loanee's effort was denied by Smithies.

Huddersfield started to come into the game more and, with their first meaningful shot on target, were back on level terms.

A simple throw in was allowed to fall to Bunn, who cut inside the Brentford defence and powered a shot past Button before celebrating in front of the home fans.

The Terriers pegged the home side back before half-time but the Bees raced out of the blocks in the second half and retook the lead.

Jota wriggled his way down the right flank, evading the challenge of Jake Carroll, before playing the ball into the six yard box.

Huddersfield couldn't clear and Long powered the ball into the top corner from close range to restore the lead.

Strike: Long shone for Brentford.

The Bees wrapped it up as Diagouraga, being urged to shoot, laid the ball off to Pritchard and his effort deflected past Smithies.

Pritchard nearly made it four in stoppage time but his free kick was tipped onto the bar by Smithies as the Bees ended the contest in dominant fashion.

The corner was only, partly, cleared and Toral, on as a substitute for Toumani Diagouraga, drilled his shot home.
